Short Sale Hardship Letter
If you need help writing a short sale hardship letter, you’re not alone. The problem is if you type that into Google or another search engine you’re going to be bombarded with thousands if not millions of results of people pitching you this or that. There has to be an easier way to sort though all the less than desirable content, right?
Well, that’s where SSF Blog comes in – we can help make it easier for you to find good information on writing a great hardship letter for your short sale. Without any further ado, here’s a look at some great resources online that can help you compose a winning hardship letter.
- Rosemary Brooks -Mother & Daughter Real Estate has a great sample hardship letter that you can take a look at.
- Spencer has a few Short Sale Hardship Letter Secrets that he shared earlier this year.
- Dan Grady from Maryland has a sample hardship letter and more tips.
- If you want to hear from the US government, HUD has Preforeclosure Sale Frequently Asked Questions, which appears to have a lot of information. Digging around, you may find information on writing a short sale hardship letter.
There are more resources out there, but you don’t want to spend too much time searching for example after example. At some point you’re going to have to do it on your own … or get help from a professional. Either way, you should do something about it before you lose your home and it’s too late.
A short sale isn’t always the best option, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Writing a short sale hardship letter doesn’t have to be difficult – you just have to do it.

I just wrote a blog post about this last week, actually. The crux of it is that it is very important to make the case to the bank that your situation is dire, and that in fact your situation has to be dire – you have to be unable to pay your mortgage, the house has to be in negative equity, and you need to be able to prove all of it. The hardship letter is less of a “cry for help” than it is a statement of the facts around the conditions leading to the hardship. Being succinct and compelling is critical.
Thanks for the comment. Feel free to leave a link to that blog post of yours.
